Modern Greek Woman

In a particularly warm and friendly atmosphere was held by the “EXALEIPTRON” Piraeus Women’s Group for Arts, Letters, Culture, Sciences, the tribute to THE MODERN GREEK WOMAN on the occasion of International Women’s Day. The event took place in the event hall of the Ionides School of Piraeus, on Sunday, March 17th, the eve of Clean Monday.

The event was honored with their participation as speakers by the ladies: Niki Kaltsoya – Constitutionalist and Emeritus Professor of Constitutional Law at Panteion University, Irene Ferretti – Criminologist – Sociologist and Vice-President of the Association for women’s rights, Fani Papadopoulou- Politician and Social Scientist – Executive of the KETHI of the Ministry of Education, and Despina Arvanitou – President of the School Board of Secondary Units of the Municipality of Piraeus.

The speeches covered a wide range of topics concerning the modern Greek woman and in particular the Forms of Violence against Women, the position of the Working Woman today, the Programmes and Actions implemented by the KETHI with the aim of supporting Women, the Constitutional Rights of Women.

         

Maria Gutzamani, Historian-Archaeologist and Curator of the Group’s Department of Letters and International Relations made a historical flashback to the position of women through the centuries (Women in the course of time) and Anna Latsi, Actress-Director and Founder and President of the Group “EXALEIPTRON”, introduced us to the tribute with an analysis of the message for Women’s Day and a reference to the contribution of modern Greek women through art.

The excellent coordination of the tribute was done by Kiki Giannakopoulio, Cardiologist and Curator of Sciences of the Group.

In addition to the speeches, the public had the opportunity to watch the screening of photographs, arrivals and historical documents about the woman, her roles and her claims.
